    North Hoyle Offshore Wind Farm

North Hoyle is the UK’s first major offshore wind farm and represents a major milestone in the UK’s drive towards cleaner sources of power. Built in 2003, the project is now fully operational and produces enough clean, green electricity each year to meet the needs of approximately 40,000 homes.

The project is located 4-5 miles off the North Wales coast between Rhyl and Prestatyn and comprises 30 wind turbines, each rated at 2 megawatts. These pages provide information on the details and location of the project, its benefits for the environment, and some information on environmental monitoring.

In a unique partnership, npower and Greenpeace developed npower juice, a clean electricity product available to domestic customers at no extra cost. Now it is fully operational, North Hoyle is the primary source of npower juice. Householders signed up to npower juice notice no difference in the electricity they receive but know that the electricity they are paying for is generated from a renewable source. This is because for every unit of electricity they use, npower feeds the same amount in to the electricity network from a renewable energy source, primarily the North Hoyle Offshore Wind Farm.
